Spring training has started. I actually feel
good about Arod not being here anymore. Sure, I’d love to have him – who
wouldn’t want the greatest player in the game? But I’ve come to believe
the contract was more of an albatross than I believed when he was here.
I’ve always hoped we would go with kids, and it looks like we’re finally
committed to that. I know the Rangers get a lot of crap in the press
(hell, watch any of the local TV news coverage), and a lot of internet fans
are quick to rag on them. I, however, like some of the moves we’ve
made (Jordan, Fullmer, Nelson), and think we’ll be better than most people
think. I’m no fool, I don’t think we’re going to be great, in fact, I
think we’ll be in last place again, but I don’t think we’ll be as bad as
everyone thinks. Heck, I even have my fingers crossed for Chan Ho Park.
If he pitches decently, we might be able to give away some more of his
bobbleheads. :) -
The rest of the position players report to camp
tomorrow. It was really nice to see Rusty Greer in spring training
again. He won’t play this year, although it might be nice to give him a
token appearance at the end of the year in September. I hope the
plan to have him come back in 2005 at the minimum salary and DH comes to
fruition. -
In preparation for the start of
the season, I’ve been working on various parts of the website. Over the
weekend, I worked on my uniform
number history section, as the 2004 Spring Training roster number
assignments are out. I’m going to clean up a few more projects I’ve been
meaning to do for awhile now. If there’s anything you’d like to do in
helping me out with the site,
drop me a line. Thanks.

Arod traded to Yankees, Blalock signed long term
-
It’s done – it was announced by
Tom Hicks on the Ticket a few minutes ago that the trade was approved by Selig.
Alex Rodriguez is a Yankee, and
Alfonso Soriano is a Ranger. -
In another move announced today,
Hank Blalock was signed to a 5 year contract
with the Rangers. Details (like $) haven’t been laid out yet – when they
will, I’ll update. -
If you check out
my roster page for Arod, it has the
revised terms of his contract spelled out – there’s only one issue I’m unsure
about in it, so I’m fairly confident the revised terms are correct. -
You know, it’s funny. I said
that if Arod wanted to not be here, then I didn’t want him here. That’s
obviously what’s happening, but the thing that frosts me most about this
entire fiasco – the absolute worst thing is this. We’re giving
money TO THE YANKEES. That’s unheard of. It’s bad
enough that we’re sending the best player in the game to the Evil Empire.
That’s bad. But to give the Yankees money? WHY? They
should be giving US money for the privilege of having the
best player in the game. Good riddance to a player who didn’t want to be
here. Best player or not, if you don’t want to be here, I don’t want
you. And that’s sad, because I really liked what he did ON THE
FIELD for us the last three years. Off the field he did next to
zero, but on the field, you couldn’t ask for any better. -
Fortunately, my season ticket
package has the game of Friday, May 21st which is the first game the Yankees
play here this season. I normally don’t like going to Yankee games, as
it brings out a hell of a lot of obnoxious fans to the Ballpark (aka Yankee
fans). However, you can bet your ass I’ll be there for this one. -
All I ask out of this is that we
put Soriano in center field, and leave Mike Young at second. Oh,
and use some of the money we saved on the Arod trade to tie up Blalock & Young
for awhile. -
The funny thing is that at the
Mini Plan Season Ticket Holder function on Feb 7th, I got Arod to sign my 2001
All-Star Game unused baseball. It’s still cool, but it seems a bit
tarnished today.

2004 TV Schedule Posted
-
Well, that was quick. Right
after I posted this morning about finding the 2004 TV schedule, I found it
right away. I’ve now updated my 2004
Schedule Pages with the information. -
Indeed, there are 7 games that are
listed as "TBA", and with the announcement that 155 Ranger games will be
carried on TV this year, instead of the usual 162, the 7 I found with no
listed TV info would match up with that. The 7 dates are May 2, May 22,
Jun 26, Sep 12, Sep 19, Sep 23, Oct 2. However, some of these are
also scheduled national games. May 2nd is an ESPN game and May 22nd is a
Fox Saturday Game of the Week. The remaining 5 games are not scheduled,
and I find it odd that 4 of those 5 are all in September.

- P Willie Banks signed to a 1 year AAA contract
Spring Training Scheduled Posted

I just noticed that the spring
training broadcast schedule has been posted, so I’ve updated my
2004 Spring Training Schedule page with
that info. Two spring training games are on TV this year. Wish
there’d be more, though. :)
