The Rangers finished up interleague play for 2012 with a nice 4-2 win over the Rockies. While the final score was 4-2 the Rangers were actually pretty much out in front this entire game. And fact, the only two runs the Rockies got both came in the ninth inning and not off of starter Matt Harrison.
G72: Rangers blown out, lose to Rockies 11-7
While the final score was only four runs, the Rangers were down at one point 11-1. We did pick up a six spot in the bottom of the fifth that was quite nice. But that was the end of the scoring. The last four innings were all zeroes.
You would have thought that Scott Feldman was so mad at being moved back to the bullpen he knocked out Colby lewis, stole his uniform and pitched as Lewis. Oh well…
Oswalt Purchased
- P Roy Oswalt (#44) purchased from AAA Round Rock
- 1B Mitch Moreland placed on 15 day DL, retro to Jun 20
- P Mark Hamburger designated for assignment [ Link ]
Remarks: Well, we knew Oswalt was coming, it was just a matter of time. Whether he’s good Oswalt, or the one that was “eh” at the end of his Philly career remains to be seen. His minor league starts aren’t any indicator, I think. Moreland to the DL was a surprise. I also kind of liked Mark Hamburger. Whether it was the obvious joke possibility of his name, or his actual pitching, I honestly can’t say. However, he did seem like a nice guy, and you never really want to lose nice guys.
G71: Oswalt debuts, I cook, Rangers win 4-1
On Friday night, I was given the opportunity to head out to the Rangers game with a friend’s tickets, so I took him up on it. I’ll usually say yes to free tickets, but when I realized a few days earlier that it was going to be Roy Oswalt’s Rangers debut, I figured it was an additional reason (beyond the obvious free) to do it. So I got myself together Friday afternoon, and headed out to grab some food before the game, because well.. It’s bloody expensive to eat at the Ballpark.
G70: Rangers sweep Padres with 4-2 win
G69: Rangers beat Padres, 7-3
I don’t have time to write about this one, so I’m gonna skip it. Feldman’s last game as a starter (which has apparently pissed him off) was his best.
Willie Eyre signed
- P Willie Eyre signed to a one year minor league contract
REMARK: There’s not a lot to this, I would think. He was here for awhile, up for a bit, then gone. I suspect this is a “bolster the minors roster” type of move. Can’t see this being a big deal long term. Does make me wonder, if he comes up, does he get his old uniform number back, or will Justin Grimm get to keep it? :)
G68: Rangers score early, hang on to win 2-1
This was a game that I didn’t get to listed to the whole game to. That’s because my three year old got me up at 6:30 in the morning, and I passed out listening to the game on the sofa. Since it’s radio, I couldn’t back it up and replay like I could on the TiVo. I think I passed out in the fourth inning, and woke up in the eighth. I was initially confused, because the score was still 2-1. Figured that wasn’t possible. But it was. I didn’t miss any scoring, I had “seen” it all early on, as 100% of the game’s runs were scored in the first inning – by both clubs!
G67: Rangers sweep Astros with 9-3 win
In this game, the Astros tried the same trick the Rangers did the day before with Justin Grimm. The Astros ran their own kid out there making his major league debut. That would be Dallas Keuchel. While he didn’t do quite as well as Grimm did the day before, he was no slouch, either. For awhile there, I thought the Rangers were going to fall prey to a long standing problem they have. Which is when we face a guy making his major league debut, we’re pretty well shut down. That was pretty much the case through the fist five innings. We were losing 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth. Was’t feeling good about the sweep, to be honest.
G66: Justin Grimm gets first ML win, 8-3
Nobody expects a major league team to start a season with it’s five man rotation, and run all the way through till Game 162 (and beyond) with the same five guys. There’s always guys that come up from the minors, guys from the pen who have made spot starts. It happens. All the time. To every team. The Rangers took a nice stab at it this year though. They went through till May 21st until they made their first roster move involving the 25 man roster. They were the last team to do so. When the Rangers finally started making some roster moves, they were the kind you’d expect. [Read more…]
