Hey, anyone who is reading this in the Dallas area and has HD, I have a question for you. What has the Rangers local game coverage in HD been?
Given we see the bulk of the games on Ch 27 & FSNSW, that’s what I’ll talk about. I’m not talking about national ESPN coverage, for Fox Saturday games, but the local stuff.
I can only remember seeing a handful of games that said “HD” and those were on FSN towards the end of the season. Can someone elaborate on this if you have any knowledge? Hoping to get some feedback on this.

I’m not sure what dish providers have to offer, but with the great services (rolls eyes) that Time Warner Cable offers here in Arlington, we get a whole zero games in high def. There is an FSN HD, but of course Time Warner will not offer it. All of Oakland’s local coverage is avaiable in HD on FSN Bay Area, as well as NESN in Boston, among others. You would think that a market such as Dallas/Fort Worth would deserve such coverage. We don’t get it though. It’s unacceptable.

If you look at the cameras at all the home games, they are all HD. However, only a handful of games were broadcast in HD (excluding national games, all of them were at home) and they were broadcast on FSN HD. I have DirecTV, and if bought your receiver more than a few months ago, a few selected games were on in HD on the 93-95 channels. Last year, these games were indicated on the Rangers online schedule by ‘FSNHD’
A few months ago, DirecTV turned on many MPEG-4 feeds for selected Regional Sports Networks (RSN’s), and FSN Southwest was one of them. However, you need the new MPEG-4 capable dish & receiver. If you have both of those, then a dedicated FSNHD channel will appear in the 90’s, and if I understand correctly (I’m not 100% confident about this), you’ll get any sports on FSN in HD (Rangers, Mavs, Stars) since I know the AAC is wired for HD and the Ballpark was recently re-wired for HD too.
So, you’d need to call a DirecTV person and figure out the costs for replacing your dish & receiver, and decide if it’s worth it at this point.
