On Saturday afternoon, the Rangers signed Rod Barajas to a 1 year deal, avoiding arbitration. He got a $1.85 Million dollar deal, which seems a bit high, considering his highest salary previous to this was $300,000. Still, he did good for us last year, and if he can keep it up in 2005 it should be a decent signing.
Catcher Rod Barajas and the Texas Rangers agreed Saturday to a $1.85 million, one-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration.
Barajas took over as the starting catcher when rookie Gerald Laird tore ligaments in his thumb in May. He played in 108 games and batted a career-high .249 with a career-best 15 homers and 58 RBIs. Barajas, who made $500,000 last year, has a .227 career average with 26 home runs and 124 RBIs in 319 games.
